ABOUT
Massabesic Lions Club was chartered on February 21, 1972 with 48 Charter Members, and originally served the towns of M.S.A.D. 57 School Distirict ( Alfred, Limerick, Lyman, Newfield, Shapleigh, and Waterboro. )
The sponsoring Club was the Scarborough Lions.
Over the years the Massabesic Lions Club has sponsored the following Lions Clubs:
1987 - Lyman - Dayton
2004 - Acton - Shapleigh
2006 - Limerick - Newfield
In 1978, Massabesic Lions sponsored the Massabesic Lioness Club and the two clubs worked hand in hand serving others untill 1998 when Lions Clubs International invited women to be part of the organization at which time the Lioness voted to dissolve the club and become members of the Massabesic Lions Club.
The Massabesic Leo Club ( High School aged youth) was sponsored in 1977.
After 37 years, the Leos are still a vibrant and busy club.
Over the years, the Club has also sponsored local Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops.
The Clubs' largest single undertaking was the renovation of the old Waterboro School on Route 202 into the Massabesic Lions Regional Medical Center. The facility provides office space for medical related practices that have included doctors, dentists, optometrists, family counselors, massage therapists and acupuncturists.
